Biondo Breaks Two Career Records as Cardinals Earn Senior Day Sweep

It was a Senior Day to remember for the William Jewell softball team on Saturday as the Cardinals downed McKendree with two walk-off wins, 9-1 in five innings and 4-3. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 9, McKendree 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B3: The Cardinals grabbed the lead first in the opener and did so in a big way, scoring five runs on three hits. Courtney Beatty singled to score two before crossing the plate herself on a McKendree error. Emily Hoover, who reached on the miscue, scored on another wild pitch from the Bearcats. (5-0, Jewell)
  • B4: The Cardinals added to their lead in the fourth as Beatty again came through with a two-RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk to Aly Manhart. (8-0, Jewell)
  • T5: McKendree got a solo home run from Konnor Arrowood to extend the game in the fifth. (8-1, Jewell)
  • B5: Allison Rawls put a one out double down the right field line to put a runner in scoring position before senior Madeline Culbertson came through for the Cardinals with a walk-off single up the middle to end the game early. (9-1, Jewell)

IN THE CIRCLE
  • Win: Anna Biondo (10-11) eanred the win, tossing the three-hit complete game. The senior also set the school record for innings pitched in game one, surpassing Amanda Storm (2009-12). 
  • Loss: Hannah Murphy (4-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in three innings of work.

GAME TWO
Jewell 4, McKendree 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B2: Sarah Lewis put Jewell on top early with a solo home run, her fifth of the season, over the center field wall. (1-0, Jewell)
  • B5: Jewell extended their lead as an error allowed Kolbee Kealoha to cross the plate. (2-0, Jewell)
  • T6: After being no-hit through five innings, McKendree broke through in the sixth, scoring three runs to take the lead. (3-2, MCK)
  • B6: The lead didn't last long as Beatty led off the bottom of the inning with a solo blast to center to tie the game (3-3)
  • B7: Two walks and an error, all coming with two outs, loaded the bases for Hoover who put a single up the middle to walk-off for the second game in a row. (4-3, Jewell)

  • Runs: Beatty (1), Lewis (1), Kealoha (1), Madelynne Greenstreet (1)
  • RBI: Beatty (1), Hoover (1), Lewis (1)

IN THE CIRCLE
  • Win: Biondo (11-11) won her second game of the day and the 48th of her career becoming the Cardinals all-time leader as she tossed one and two-third innings in relief, allowing just a single hit. 
  • Loss: Kaylee Silliman (4-12) took the loss, going six and two-thirds, allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
