In the opening match of Great Lakes Valley Conference play the William Jewell men's soccer team gave Rockhurst all they could handle for nearly 100 minutes but fell 1-0 in overtime to move to 0-3 on the season. 

How it Happened

• With under 10 minutes to play the Cardinals got off three shots, including a knock by Cody Benedict which hit off the crossbar, but none passed the goal line. 
• With just 54 seconds remaining in the first overtime period Rockhurst scored on a nine-yard shot and header by Jackson Wood. 

For the Cardinals

• Benedict posted four of the Cardinals' five shots while Sam Schneck had the other. 
• Jose Cambreros collected a game-high seven saves, including five in the second half to help force extra time.  

For the Hawks

• Rockhurst finished with 23 shots but just eight on goal. 
• Wood led the Hawks with five shots with Connor Blentlinger adding four.
