The William Jewell women's basketball team enacted some revenge on Quincy University on Thursday evening, winning 65-54 on the road after dropping their first meeting earlier this season in the Mabee Center. The Cardinals improve to 8-11 on the season with the win and 4-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
How it Happened
- The Cardinals hit three quick triples to jump out to a 9-2 lead four minutes into the opening quarter. Quincy got back climbed back in to the game but Lea Finn hit a shot in the lane to make it a 16-8 Jewell lead after 10 minutes.
- The second quarter was the Kiara Bradley show as the junior scored eight consecutive points over a four minute span as the Cardinals doubled the lead to 16 at the half, 37-21.
- Both teams went cold for much of the third quarter, combining for just 21 total points. Jewell grew their lead to as many as 21 but the Hawks closed the period on a 11-5 run to close the gap to 15.
- Quincy did not go away in the fourth quarter, pulling within five with three minutes to play. Jewell made it a double digit final by hitting all 12 of their shots from the charity stripe over the final two minutes.
For the Cardinals
- Rhyann Fisher shined in the win posting career bests with 17 points and nine steals, tying Chelsea Meeks and Jessie Wheeler for the most swipes in a single game in the NCAA era.
- Bradley led the Cardinals with 19 points, including 16 in the opening half, to go along with seven rebounds.
- Claire Burch added 11 points while Sydney Offield grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, one off the NCAA era single game record set by Maddie Nelson in January 2017.
For the Hawks
- Laney Lantz scored 16 and was the only player in double figures for the Hawks.
- Quincy won the battle in the paint, 24-16.
