Cardinals Fall on the Road at Truman 72-65

The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference decision at Truman State by a final of 72-65 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals fall to 8-12 on the season and 4-8 in conference play. 

How it Happened
  • Truman jumped out to an early 11 point lead in the opening quarter but five straight points by Lea Finn pulled the Cardinals back within six. 
  • Jewell opened the second quarter by outscoring the Bulldogs 11-10 and then held Truman scoreless over the final 4:36 and eventually tied the game at 32, just before the half. 
  • Truman started the third quarter with a 15-2 run to open up their largest lead of the day at 13 midway through the period. Finn scored another six points to help pull Jewell back within seven after three frames. 
  • The Cardinals slowed the Bulldogs down in the fourth quarter, pulling within four after a layup by Bailey Russell with just 70 seconds on the clock but could get no closer. 

For the Cardinals
  • Finn led the Cardinals with 14 points while Russell and Kiara Bradley added 10. 
  • Sydney Offield totaled a game-high 14 rebounds. This is the third time this season and the fifth career double digit rebounding game for the redshirt junior guard. 
  • The Jewell bench outscored Truman 27-7 and won the battle in the paint 24-18. 

For the Bulldogs
  • Sloane Totta led three Truman players in double figures with 23 while Katie Jaseckas finished with a double double of 19 points and 10 boards.
  • The Bulldogs shot 43% from the field and 39% from three.
