SERIES INFORMATION
  • Indianapolis leads the all-time series, 9-0, including last year's 92-63 win in Liberty.
  • Southern Indiana owns a 7-1 lead all-time with Jewell's lone win coming on February 15, 2018 as the Cards downed the Screaming Eagles 94-81. USI took last season's match up 76-60.
CARDINAL NOTES
  • William Jewell is set to tip off the program's 122nd season on Friday and holds and all-time record of 1,663-1,220. Jewell is one of the oldest collegiate programs in the state of Missouri, beginning play in 1888. The Cardinals were picked to finish fourth in the GLVC West behind Drury, Rockhurst and Southwest Baptist and ahead of Missouri S&T.
  • Despite returning nearly everyone from a year ago, the Cardinals will still be one of the youngest teams in the GLVC, with four seniors, including just two who have played in more than 55 games. Leading the list of returners is All-GLVC Second Team and two-time All-Defensive Team performer Eysan Wiley. Wiley, who joined the 1,000 point club last season and was just the 16th player to do so prior to his senior season, averaged 16.6 points and a conference-leading 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
  • Jackson Golightly has flown under the radar for much of the last three years but provides valuable minutes for the Cardinals, including 8.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists last season. He has shot better than 50% from the field during his career spanning over more than 70 games.
  • Chris McCabe and assistant coach Christian Hildebrandt brought in a six-member recruiting class, made up of primarily local standouts. Headlining that list is 6'6 forward, Grant Stubbs. The Liberty High School product was an All-State selection as a senior and is the son of former Jewell two-time All-American and Hall of Famer, Weldon Stubbs, '94.
  • McCabe enters his second season at the helm of the Cardinals after coming from Liberty North High School. Three current Cardinals, Robbie Hanson, Jalen Perry and Macaleb Hughes, played for McCabe during their high school days.
  • Five of Jewell's 18 players also played with at least one current teammate at the high school level. Hanson and Hughes both played for Liberty North from 2014-18, with Perry joining them in 2016. Additionally, Jackson Golightly and John Zimmerman were teammates for four years at Maryville High School (MO) from 2013-17. Zimmerman initially attended Northwest Missouri State but did not play basketball giving him two years of eligibility remaining compared to Golightly's one.

ABOUT UINDY
  • Indianapolis will be led this season by first-year head coach Paul Corsaro, a two-time alumnus of the University. Corsaro took over for Stan Gourd who left for his own alma mater, Southern Indiana.
  • Also gone from last season is All-GLVC and All-Region first teamer Jimmy King and his 13.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Additionally, All-GLVC Second Team honoree Trevor Lakes and his team leading 15.7 points has also moved on.
  • Headlining the list of returners is Cory Miller, Jr. who was named to the All-GLVC Defensive Team after putting in 12 points and pulling down 3.3 board.
  • The Greyhounds got a boost with the addition of several transfers including Jakobie Robinson from McKendree. The Indianapolis native makes the move to UIndy after averaging 7.4 points and earning GLVC All-Freshman team honors.

ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA
  • Southern Indiana is one of the more historically strong programs in the GLVC and with the cancelation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament, are still the reigning Midwest Region Champions.
  • The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 22-8 campaign and will be led by alumnus Stan Gourd, now in his first season as head coach after leading USI to the 1995 national championship.
  • USI is led by senior forward Emmanuel Little who was recently named preseason All-America by Basketball Times. Little poured in 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per night last season.
  • Also back is Mateo Rivera who was named All-GLVC Second Team as a junior after averaging 11.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
