EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The William Jewell men's basketball team went cold offensively, shooting just 28% on Sunday afternoon, as they fell 81-51 to No. 25-ranked Southern Indiana. The Cardinals drop to 1-1 on the season while the Screaming Eagles improve to the same mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell led 3-2 just over 70 seconds into the game but struggled to find an offensive rhythm from there, going scoreless for more than six minutes. Trey Shannon finally ended the drought with a layup with 12:29 remaining in the first half.
- Trailing 21-6 Grant Stubbs and Carter Olsen pulled Jewell back into the game, combining for the Cardinals' next 20 points to get within seven.
- Unfortunately for the Cardinals the offense did not heat up in the second half as Jewell scored 11 points over the first 16 and half minutes. The bright spot of the second half was freshman Jordan Jermain who, despite playing only the final 4:05, scored nine points.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Jewell was led offensively by Stubbs' 13 points while Olsen added 10, on 3-of-6 from three.
- Jackson Golightly led the Cardinals with eight rebounds.
- The Jewell bench outscored their counterpart, 16-9, led by Jermain, who his collegiate debut scored nine points including going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
FOR THE SCREAMING EAGLES
- USI was led by Josh Price, who put together an impressive game with 23 points and 17 rebounds.
- Emmanuel Little added 23 points while Tyler Henry had 18.
- The Screaming Eagles forced Jewell into 26 turnovers leading 30 points.
