Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cardinals Fall at Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Kiara Bradley's double-double wasn't enough on Sunday as the William Jewell women's basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the year after a 80-55 loss at Southern Indiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams got off to a rough start offensively, combining just 17 points through the first seven minutes of the opening quarter. Over the final 2:26, the teams traded buckets led by Bradley's five, to make it an 18-17 game after one period, in favor of Southern Indiana.
  • Again the offense struggled to open the second quarter, as the first points didn't come until a layup by USI's Emma DeHart broke the ice more than two minutes in.
  • With the Cardinals trailing by just one, the Eagles went on a 18-5 run to break open a 14-point advantage. A layup by Ainsley Tolson and two free throws from Rhyann Fisher cut the lead to 10 at the break, 40-30.
  • USI picked up where they left off after the intermission, scoring the first six points before Tolson ended the Cardinal drought. Jewell was outscored 15-11 in the third period as USI extended the advantage back to 14.
  • The Screaming Eagles pushed their lead to as many as 27 late in the game on their way to the 80-55 win.

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Bradley was strong once again with a double-double, her second in as many games, with 23 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with three assists and two blocks.
  • After shooting 55% from the floor in the opening quarter, the Cardinals struggled in the second half, going just 9-for-27, and ended at 39% for the game.

FOR THE SCREAMING EAGLES
  • DeHart led five Eagles in double figures with 20 points while Hannah Haithcock added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • USI forced the Cardinals into 22 turnovers, leading to 24 points and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds, ending in 12 second chance points.

UP NEXT
  • The Cardinals are scheduled to travel to Rockhurst on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip before hosting Drury on Saturday in the home opener.
