Box Score LIBERTY, Mo. - Southwest Baptist shot better than 64% in the opening half of Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup to open a large first half lead and never looked back, downing the Cardinals 89-71. Jewell drops to 1-2 on the season and in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a bit of a cold start, combining for just six points, more than four minutes ito the games. The Cardinals stayed close to the Bearcats for much of the first half but over the final 6:36 of the half, Southwest Baptist exploded for a 26-6 run, hitting 10-of-11 field goals, including 4-of-5 three point shots, to open a 48-26 halftime lead.
- The Cardinals outscored Southwest Baptist in the second half, 45-41 but it was too little too late. A bucket from Grant Stubbs with 2:10 remaining cut the lead to 13 but Jewell could get no closer.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Stubbs picked up his first career double-double with a career-best 18 points and 12 rebounds.
- Jackson Golightly also got his first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- Mason Alexander chipped in 10 points and four assists while Kobe McKinley scored nine and blocked three shots in 20 minutes off the bench.
- The Cardinals grabbed a season-high 13 offensive rebounds which led to 18 second-chance points.
FOR THE BEARCATS
- The Bearcats put five in double-figures, led by Ricky Crawford, Jr.'s 16 points in just 16 minutes.
- Southwest Baptist's bench outscored the Jewell bench 42-21 while also winning the paint, 40-26.
