Game Recap: Softball |

Jewell Defeats No. 3 Grand Valley to Open Lewis Dome Invitational

The William Jewell softball team earned their biggest win in recent memory on Friday morning with a 4-3 victory over No. 3 ranked Grand Valley State, the highest ranked win under Dustin Combs. The Cardinals who dropped an 8-3 decision to Saginaw later in the day move to 2-4 on the season with the split.

Game One: 4-3, William Jewell
How it Happened
  • The Cardinals wasted no time, jumping all over the nationally ranked Lakers with two runs in the top of the first. After back-to-back singles to lead off the game, Sarah Lewis and Emily Hoover came through with RBI knocks to make it 2-0 before an out was recorded.
  • Grand Valley got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Lydia Goble.
  •  Lindsay Glynn and Tori Farr got things started in the first and did again in the second as the former singled down the left field line scoring Farr before swiping third and scoring herself to push the Jewell lead to three runs.
  • A two-run home run in the fifth by the Lakers pulled them within one but the Cardinals shut the door from there.

Game Two: 8-3, Saginaw Valley
How it Happened
  • Jewell again jumped on top early as Glynn blasted her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the opening inning. Saginaw Valley got one run back in the bottom of the frame.
  • Jewell extended the lead in the third on an RBI single off the bat of Emily Hoover
  • Saginaw Valley used a big third inning of their own to take their first lead, scoring four runs on five hits and a Cardinal error.
  • SVSU added an additional run in the fourth and two in the fifth to bring the score to the final.

For the Cardinals
  • Glynn led the Cardinals on the day with five htis, four runs scored, and three RBI. Farr added two hits and three runs.
