Cardinals Win Fourth Straight with 11-3 Victory

The William Jewell baseball team earned a four-game sweep of Bemidji State with an 11-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Fountain Bluff Sports Complex. The victory moves the Cardinals to 7-3 on the season.

How it Happened
  • Bemidji State jumped out to the early lead in the series finale, scoring the first run on a bases loaded walk in the second inning. After a walk and a double, Ben Pautler grounded out to score Cody Lampe and tie the game at one.
  • In the following frame, Anthony Hansen snuck a base hit through the right side to score Christian Chalabi and put the Cardinals on top for the first time.
  • Jewell blew things open in the fourth, scoring four runs on three hits, including back-to-back two-RBI base hits by Chalabi and Hansen.
  • The Beavers scored two in the sixth to cut the lead in half but Cameron Fliege followed with an RBI single to push the lead back to four.
  • A sac fly from Zach Urso and a Beaver error led to two more Jewell runs in the seventh frame before an RBI groundout and another sac fly in the eighth pushed the score to the final of 11-3.

For the Cardinals
  • Hansen and Jade Smoot each finished with three hits with the former posting three RBI.
  • Chalabi, Urso, and Mason Goade each scored two runs.
  • The Cardinals swiped four bases and drew seven walks.
  • Mack Stephenson (1-0) earned the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight.

For the Beavers
  • Bemidji State was limited to just five hits, led by two from Wyatt White.
  • Trevyn Wells (0-1) took the loss, giving up six earned on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings.
