The William Jewell baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference match up with Pittsburg State on Wednesday by a final of 7-4. The Cardinals move to 8-7 on the season while the Gorillas improve to 14-7. 

How it Happened

• Pittsburg State grabbed an early lead with an unearned run in the second inning. 
• In the seventh, the Gorillas scored five runs in the top half of the inning to break things open. The Cardinals put together a rally in the bottom half of the frame. Ben Pautler singled through the right side scoring Jade Smoot followed by a double down the right field line off the bat of Christian Chalabi to plate two and cut the deficit to 6-3. 
• The Gorillas added a single insurance run in the top of the ninth to bring the score to the final. 

For the Cardinals

• Smoot, Pautler, Chase Swisher and Anthony Hansen each finished with two hits. 
• Chalabi had two RBI while Hansen swiped a base. 
• Tanner Lucas (0-2) took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run over six innings of work. 

For the Gorillas

• The Gorillas were out hit 10-7 with all seven hits from different players. 
• Ty Herrenbruck and Chaz Burgess finished with two RBI. 
• Tanner Lane (3-1) earned the win, allowing just one hit in two innings in relief.
