Softball Drops Two at Lincoln

The William Jewell softball team saw their six game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Lincoln University by scores of 1-0 and 3-2. The Cardinals move to 9-7 on the season. 

Game One: 1-0, Loss
How it Happened
  • Lincoln scored one run in the bottom of the first inning in the opener on an RBI single by Kendra Holt and made the run stand through seven frames.  

Game Two: 3-2, Loss
How it Happened
  • In the nightcap it was the Cardinals who grabbed the early advantage as Tori Farr walked and came around to score on a double off the bat of Sarah Lewis
  • Lincoln scored two runs on three hits in the second frame and another run on four hits in the six to take a two-run lead.
  • The Cardinals battled in the top of the seventh as Emily Hoover singled and scored on an RBI base hit from Abby Dubinski but Jewell could get no closer. 

For the Cardinals
  • Dubinski finished the day with four hits and an RBI while Lewis added three hits. 
  • Lewis (4-4) suffered the loss in the opener,despite allowing just two hits over six innings. 
  • Kenzie Jones (4-1) took the loss in game two, allowing three earned on eight hits. 

For the Blue Tigers
  • Three players posted two hits each for Lincoln, led by Alex Miller who also finished with two runs while Jordan Hollon had two RBI. 
  • Ashton Stalling (1-2) earned the win in game one, throwing a complete game shutout. 
  • Tressa Hughes (2-2) was the winner in game two, allowing a single earned run with seven strikeouts. 

Up Next
After playing eight games in a span of six days, the Cardinals are off until Tuesday when they travel to Emporia State for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
