BOLIVAR, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team suffered a 77-66 loss at Southwest Baptist to open conference play on Monday evening. The loss drops Jewell to 2-5 on the season, 0-1 in league action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The opening half was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to gain more than a four point advantage until late. Tied at 22 with 6:25 remaining, the Bearcats outscored Jewell 11-7 to gain a four-point lead at the break, 33-29. 
• SBU started the second half fast, going on a 18-6 run to break open a 16-point lead. The Cardinals followed with 12-3 run of their own, capped by a layup from Jevaughn Ferguson, to get within seven with just under 10 minutes to play.
• The Bearcats rallied to go back on top by 16 with a little more than three minutes on the clock to put the game out of reach. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• John Zimmerman tied his career high with a team-best 11 points, as the Jewell bench outscored their counterparts 28-14.  
• Kobe McKinley added 10 points while pulling down four rebounds and grabbing three steals.
