BOLIVAR, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball dropped their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Monday evening, falling 65-35 at Southwest Baptist. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After falling in a 6-0 hole in the first 90 seconds, the Cardinals found the basketball and eventually tied the game, with four points from Libby Arnold. Jewell was held to just two points over the final five minutes of the first quarter to trail 14-8 after 10 minutes. 
• The Cardinals were held scoreless for more than six minutes until Kate Hillyer hit two free throws to cut the deficit back to single digits, 18-10. A three from Arnold to close the half, made it a 23-10 game at the break, in favor of the Bearcats. 
• SBU grew their lead to as many as 32 in the second half before closing the game at 65-35.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Hillyer led the Cardinals with eight points while Arnold added seven. 
• D'Asya Collier-Williams posted a team-high four rebounds and two assists. 
• The Cardinals shot a season-best 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
