Volleyball Hosts Missouri S&T Friday; Drury Saturday for Senior Day

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball wraps up the home portion of the schedule this weekend as they host Missouri S&T on Friday followed by Drury on Saturday.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals are coming off a tough five-set loss to Rockhurst on Tuesday. Jewell put together one of their best all-around performances of the season but fell just short in the fifth set, 15-13.  
  • In total, eight career-highs were tied or broken on the Tuesday, highlighted by Bella LaPorta's 19 kills. Lily Johnson posted eight blocks while Anna Godfredsen had six and Katy Garrison had seven digs. 
  • The Cardinals have been on a rampage from behind the service line as of late, totaling 19 aces in the last two games, with 1.63 per set over the previous four matches. Samantha Thompson posted a career-best five on Tuesday, the most by a Cardinal since 2015, while her 18 on the season are the most since Alix Weigel's 23 in 2017. 
  • Jordan Collard and Haidan Baade have combined for 584 digs on the season which is the first time Jewell boasts two players with 200-plus digs since 2018. Collard enters the week ranked ninth in the GLVC with 3.91 digs per set. 
  • The Cardinals are one of the top blocking teams in the GLVC, entering with 191.5 total, fifth best in the league and 38th in Division II, after putting up 13 on Tuesday. Chloe Robison leads the way with 82 rejections while Johnson has 72 and Garrison 52, to give Jewell three players with at least 50 blocks for the first time since 2018. 
  • Hannah Cope is up to a career-best 481 assists this season, putting her 56 from 1,000 for her career, which would make her the fifth player in the NCAA era to reach the milestone and first since 2017. The junior is 12th in the GLVC with 5.87 assists per set. 
  • Jewell will honor four seniors, Johnson, Harper Auman, Paityn Hardison and Grace Baucom, prior to first serve on Saturday. The foursome has combined for 817 sets played, 1,422 kills and 309 blocks over the last four seasons. 
     
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
  • Missouri S&T enters the weekend at 15-9 on the season and 8-5 in the GLVC and defeated the Cardinals, 3-1 back on October 2. 
  • One of the best blocking teams in Division II, the Miners have 218 on the season, 12th best in the nation. Kiernan O'Boyle headlines the defense at the net with a GLVC leading 1.35 blocks per set. 
  • Offensively, fifth-year senior Payton Gannaway is second in the conference with 340 kills for an average of 3.62 per set to go along with 0.50 aces, also second in the league. 
  • Meiko Pearson enters the week ranked 11th with 335 digs and 3.60 per set. 
  • Andy Halaz is in his third season at the helm of the Missouri S&T program and has aided in its return to the top of the GLVC. 
 
ABOUT DRURY
  • Drury and the Cardinals meet twice over a span of two weeks and enter the first with a record of 18-9. 
  • One of the top defensive teams in the conference, the Panthers are tops in the league with 241 blocks and 1,712 digs. Makina Wratten and Taylor Forth are third and fourth in the GLVC with 1.04 and 1.00 blocks per set, respectively. Along the back row, Juliana Squire and Emma Fox both boast better than 3.4 digs per set. 
  • Chloe Rear has posed a triple threat for Drury, with two triple-doubles on the season, 11th best in Division II, as she averages 8.15 assists, 1.43 kills, and 2.49 digs per set. 
  • Jenifer Bahner is in her eighth season with the Panthers, having brought the program to new heights during her tenure, including a program record 28 wins and a No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Midwest Region in 2018.
