LIBERTY, Mo. - In their final game of 2021, the William Jewell women's basketball team defeated Graceland University 64-53. The win improves the Cardinals to 1-7 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell got off to a hot start, breaking out to a quick 6-0 lead, forcing an early timeout by Graceland. The Yellowjackets responded quickly outscoring the Cards 12-7 over the remainder of the opening quarter. 
• In the second quarter, Jewell gained some separation, starting the period on a 9-0 run, led by five points from Kate Hillyer, as the Cardinals led 34-25 at the break. 
• Two free throws by Graceland early in the second half pulled them within five but Jewell responded with 8-0 spurt, capped by a Lea Finn three to take their largest lead of the night at 13. 
• The Cardinals outscored Graceland 11-10 in the final frame to hold off the Yellowjackets. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Three players scored in double-figures, led by Libby Arnold's 18. The sophomore added seven rebounds and two assists. 
• Hillyer scored 16, tying her career high, while flirting with a double-double with eight boards. 
• Finn was solid all-around with 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and six assists. 
• The Cardinals dominated the glass, out-rebounding Graceland 44-30, led by 11 from Katie Knock.

Jewell is off until after the turn of the new year when they will travel to Drury University on January 2.
