Cardinals Bounce Back with Big Road Win over Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – After their lowest scoring output of the season the last time out, the William Jewell women's basketball team came back with a vengeance on Thursday, scoring a season-high to defeat Lewis 95-77 on the road. The win pushes the Cardinals to 8-9 on the season while the Flyers fall to 10-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell came out strong in the opening quarter, holding the Flyers to just 25% shooting while hitting 47% themselves to open a 23-14 lead behind 12 early points from Claire Burch
  • Lewis won the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 19-14, as Jewell missed their first seven shots of the frame. A Kiara Bradley three finally got things going again as the senior scored six straight points to push the lead back to nine.
  •  The Cardinals were blazing the third period, shooting 64% from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point land. Annemarie Boeh kick started things with a triple, but Lewis eventually pulled with one only to be met with another three from Bradley. As the shot clock expired late in the quarter, Ainsley Tolson knocked down another deep three to cap a 16-3 Jewell run and open up a 15-point advantage.
  • As good as the third quarter was, the fourth was even better as Jewell shot 89% from the field (8-of-9), scoring 32 points. The Cardinals went on a 15-7 run midway through the final period including back-to-back traditional three-point plays to eventually push the lead to their largest of the night at 20.
