ROLLA, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team went five sets for the first time this season on Friday night as they fell 3-2 to Missouri S&T. The Cardinals took sets one and three, 25-18, 27-17 but dropped sets two, four and five by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 15-13 to fall to 0-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied at 12 in the opening set, the Cardinals went on a 11-3 run behind three kills from Anna Godfredsen to open a 23-15 lead. The Miners were able to stop the run on a service error but committed two attack errors of their own to give Jewell the set 25-18.Â
- Missouri S&T responded in the second set, racing out to a 20-11 advantage. The Cardinals pulled within 24-19 after a kill by Jorey Luebbert but the Miners got a kill from Payton Gannaway to tie the match at one set each.
- Trailing by three in the third set, Jewell score eight straight points behind three blocks from the combination of Luebbert and Godfredsen and took the set 25-17.Â
- Set four came down the wire as Jewell led 22-21 after a Paityn Hardison kill but the Miners scored four of the final five points to force the fifth set.Â
- The finale was another tight one as the Cardinals went on top 12-10 behind a trio of service aces. After a timeout, the Miners scored four straight points off Cardinal errors to hold match point. A kill by Jordan Collard held off Missouri S&T briefly but a kill by Kiernan O'Boyle on the ensuing play ended the set 15-13 in favor of the home team.  Â
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Hardison led the offense with 18 kills and a career-high four services aces.  Godfredsen finished with 12 kills to go along with four blocks.Â
- Hannah Cope dished out 38 assists while Kaci Behrens dug up 16 balls.Â
- As a team, the Cardinals finished with eight blocks, compared to four by the Miners while collecting nine aces and hitting .177.Â
FOR THE MINERS
- Missouri S&T hit .121 on the night, led by Avery Reed's 13 kills.Â
- Meiko Pearson had 16 digs while Hannah Merjil finished with 22 assists.Â

Jewell is scheduled to return home on Tuesday as they host No. 10 Rockhurst at 7 p.m.
