Spring Sport Spectator Guidelines Announced

LIBERTY, Mo. - William Jewell College is pleased to announce that spectators will be permitted for outdoor sports this spring, while remaining compliance with campus and local health guidelines. Below is a summary of the expectations and policies regarding spectators for the sports of softball, baseball and soccer. 
 
Guidelines for football and track and field will be announced at a later date and may vary from the below sports.  
 
While William Jewell is planning to have spectators at outdoor sports, some Great Lakes Valley Conference institutions are not, and fans should check GLVCsports.org for a listing of all conference school's spectator policies prior to traveling to a road game. 

FOOTBALL
        Football Ticket Request Timeline 
  • Phase 1a (March 8 – March 15): Current students, faculty, and staff
  • Phase 1b (March 8 – March 15): Guests of players, coaches, and staff
  • Phase 2 (March 15 – March 22): Members of the J Club
  • Phase 3 (March 22 – 29): Jewell Alumni and other Friends of the College
  • Phase 4 (March 29 – April 1): General Public
        Football Spectator Policies
  • All spectators MUST properly wear a face mask that completely covers their mouth, nose, and chin at all times
  • All spectators MUST maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or more from others at all times except for individuals who live in the same residence
  • All spectators MUST stand or sit in designated areas only
  • Spectators are not permitted on the track or playing field at any time
  • Smoking, vaping, or chewing tobacco prohibited inside the venue
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited inside the venue
  • Tailgating or other food preparation of any kind is prohibited in or around the venue
  • Pets are prohibited in the venue
  • Consumption of sunflower seeds or shelled nuts that involves spitting are prohibited
  • All tickets are revocable and nontransferable
  • Concessions will not be available and spectators may bring in their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. However, coolers or ice chests are not permitted. 

SOFTBALL
  • Home and visiting spectators permitted
  • Masks are required at all times, covering the nose, mouth and chin.
  • Physical distancing required
  • Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs as bleacher seating will be extremely limited due to physical distancing requirements
  • The bleachers behind home plate will be used as dugout overflow and closed to spectators. 
  • Weather and grounds permitting, fans are encouraged to utilize their vehicle outside the outfield fence as a safe way to view the games.
  • No limit on spectators, permitting that social distancing procedures can be maintained. 
  • Fans will not be permitted on the field or in the dugouts, bullpens or batting cage at any time. 
  • Tailgating or food preparation in, or around, the venue will be not permitted. Spectators may bring with them pre-packaged items. No alcohol is permitted at any time.

SOCCER
  • Home and visiting spectators permitted
  • Masks are required at all times, covering the nose, mouth and chin.
  • Physical distancing required. All spectators will be required to sit in designated areas in the stadium. 
  • Fans will not be permitted on the field at any time. 
  • Tailgating or food preparation in, or around, the venue will be not permitted. Spectators may bring with them pre-packaged items as concessions will not be available. No alcohol is permitted at any time.

BASEBALL
  • Home and visiting spectators permitted
  • Masks are required at all times, covering the nose, mouth and chin.
  • Physical distancing required
  • Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs and sit on the hillside outside the outfield fence.
  • Standing room will only permitted in designated areas. 
  • Bleacher and chair back seating will be limited to 87 individuals, with physical distancing. Student spectators may sit with their roommates. 
  • No limit on total spectators, permitting that physical distancing procedures can be maintained.
  • Fans will not be permitted on the field or in the dugouts, bullpens or batting cage at any time. 
  • Tailgating or food preparation in, or around, the venue will not be permitted. Spectators may bring with them pre-packaged items. No alcohol is permitted at any time

TENNIS
  • Matches played on campus:
    • Masks are required at all times, covering the nose, mouth and chin.
    • Physical distancing required
    • Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
    • Standing room will only permitted in designated areas. 
    • Fans will not be permitted on the court or playing area at any time.
  • Matches played at off campus venues: 
    • Masks are required at all times, covering the nose, mouth and chin.
    • Physical distancing required
    • Fans will not be permitted on the court or playing area at any time.
    • All other venue rules and requirements




At this time, the GLVC Council of Presidents have voted to permit institutions to make their own decision regarding spectators for outdoor sports. Indoor sports, such as volleyball, continue to be limited to essential personnel only. This policy will be reviewed throughout the spring.
