Cardinals Battle to 1-0 Loss in 11 Innings at Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped their Great Lakes Valley Conference opening doubleheader on Monday at Drury University by finals of 7-4 and a tough 1-0 loss in 11 innings. The Cardinals drop to 1-11 on the season.

GAME ONE
Jewell 4, Drury 7

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Drury scored first in the opener, with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • The Cardinals responded immediately, plating four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Sabrina Olmo singled singled up the middle scoring two followed by an RBI base hit by Aly Manhart to tie the game at there. Allison Rawls put Jewell on top with an RBI single to right, scoring Kenzie Stahl. 
  • The Panthers plated four runs on four hits and a Cardinal error in the bottom of the sixth to take a three run lead. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell totaled seven hits, led by two from Tori Farr. 
  • Kenzie Jones (0-5) took the loss, working 5.1 innings.  

FOR THE PANTHERS
  • Lauren Beier and Devin Hale led Drury with two hits a piece while Kinzy Mathis scored two runs. 
  • Karsyn Smith got the win, throwing the final 2.1 frames, allowing just two hits. 

GAME TWO
Jewell 0, Drury 0 (11 Innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both pitchers battled for the first three frames, allowing just five runners on three walks and an error. In the fourth, Abby Dubinski doubled and came around on a single by Jones but was thrown out at the plate, ending the threat. 
  • In the bottom of the 10th, Jewell escaped a two on, one out jam as Manhart recorded a strikeout and a line out. 
  • Jewell put a runner on the top of the 11th but was caught stealing before the Panthers walked off with a solo home run by Kolb in the bottom half of the inning. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell had five hits, by five different players. 
  • Manhart (0-6) suffered the loss, working 10-plus innings, the most for a Cardinal pitcher since Anna Biondo's 11 against Southwest Baptist in 2018. 

FOR THE PANTHERS
  • Abby Tiemann led the Panthers with two of the team's six hits. 
  • Bailee Nixon got the win, tossing the final inning, allowing just one baserunner.
