Jewell Splits with Maryville

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team won their third straight on Monday morning by defeating Maryville 2-1 before falling in game two, 4-0. The Cardinals played Monday's games wearing purple stirrups to honor senior Allison Rawls' father, Jim, who passed last year after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

GAME ONE
Jewell 2, Maryville 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the second inning of the opener, Tori Farr reached base on an error, stole second and advanced to third on another Maryville miscue. Kenzie Jones executed the squeeze play to plate the first run of the game.
  • After three scoreless frames, Maryville tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Charlton.
  • Jewell wasted little time responding as Allison Rawls led off the bottom of the inning with a double and scored on a groundout by Chloe Murphy to put the Cards on top for good.

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell finished with six hits, with Rawls and Sabrina Olmo combining for four of those.
  • Farr swiped two bases.
  • Aly Manhart earned her second win in as many days, tossing all seven innings, allowing just the lone earned run and striking out three.

FOR THE SAINTS
  • Maryville was led by Charlton and McKenna McCoy with two hits a piece.
  • Alyssa Callans (5-3) was saddled with the loss, giving up six hits and striking out seven batters.

GAME TWO
Jewell 0, Maryville 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maryville scored an early run in the third inning on an RBI single by Callans.
  • The Saints added three more runs on two hits and a Cardinal miscue in the fifth frame to bring the score to the final.

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • The Cardinals were limited to just three hits, those coming from Farr, Jones and Kelli McCallister
  • Kenzie Jones (1-6) took the loss, despite giving up just one earned run over 4.1 innings.

FOR THE SAINTS
  • Maryville had five total hits, with two each from Callans and Taylor Shingler.
  • Reagan Smith (1-1) got the complete game win, striking out three.
