Cardinals Drop Two at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at McKendree on Sunday by finals of 3-1 and 2-1. The Cardinals fall to 6-16 on the season and 5-7 in league play. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 1, McKendree 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKendree scored in the opening inning on back-to-back singles, scoring Caitlyn Lowry. 
  • The Bearcats added one run in the third and one in the fifth to take a three-run lead. 
  • Tori Farr put the Cardinals on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single, scoring Abby Vandiver

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell had four hits in the opener, by four players, including Aly Manhart's double. 
  • Manhart (2-7) suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits. 

FOR THE BEARCATS
  • McKendree got two hits from Jenny Homann to lead the way. Homann, along with Paige Hayden and Shelby Summer had one RBI apiece. 
  • Ellie Quaethem (4-3) got the win, working a complete game, striking out three. 

GAME TWO
Jewell 1, McKendree 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell jumped in front first in the nightcap as Sabrina Olmo walked and scored on the following pitch as Manhart sent a double to right centerfield. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcats rallied as two walked followed by back-to-back hits put McKendree on top, 2-1. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
FOR THE BEARCATS
  • Miranda Gajewski (6-2) earned the win, giving up just one earned run while striking out 10 over seven frames. 
  • Gajewski also led the offense with two hits while Homann had both RBI. 

UP NEXT 
Jewell is back at home on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader with Missouri Southern, beginning at 12 p.m.
