Maryville Uses Early Scores to Down Cardinals

LIBERTY, Mo. - Maryville University played spoiler in the home opener for the William Jewell women's soccer team on Friday night, defeating the Cardinals 3-1. Jewell drops to 0-2-1 in GLVC action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maryville scored first in the 20th minute with a goal by Kennedy Reeser. The Saints made it 2-0 just before the half on a goal by Alex Johnson. 
  • Molly Krispin to make it 3-0, early in the second half. 
  • Jewell got on on the board in the 69th minute as Aubrey Avalos converted the corner kick from Jasmine Collier for her first career goal. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • The Cardinals took just four shots, with two on goal. Annalee Arbeitman led with two shots. 
  • Kaylee Kappelmann finished with a career-high 14 saves. 

FOR THE SAINTS
  • Maryville posted 23 shots, with 17 on goal. Johnson led the Saints with seven shots. 
  • Lexi Gentry finished with two assists.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals are back at home on Sunday as they host Lindenwood at 12 p.m.
