Jewell Drops Two at Central Missouri

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Central Missouri on Sunday afternoon by finals of 11-3 and 4-0 to fall to 1-9 on the year.  
 
GAME ONE – HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After UCM took an early lead, Aly Manhart reached base on an error that also allowed Sophia Lopez to score and cut the deficit in half.
  • The Jennies added a run in the third but Hailey Wall and Tori Farr led off the top of the fourth with back-to-back home runs to tie things up at three. 
  • UCM scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to end the game early.   
 
FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Five different Cardinals posted one hit.
  • Manhart (0-4) took the loss, working 3.2 innings.   
 
FOR THE JENNIES
  • Ashlyn Cook led UCM with four RBI while Sydney Wellshear and Makenzie McAtee each had two hits.
  • Paige Petefish (2-1) earned the win, working the final two frames and not allowing a hit.

 GAME TWO – HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Jennies grabbed an early lead in the second inning after a double by Bailee Bryant.
  • UCM added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to bring the score to the final of 4-0.    
 
FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Farr had two of Jewell's four hits in game two.
  • Kenzie Jones (0-4) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs while striking out three.    
 
FOR THE JENNIES
  • McAtee posted three hits in the nightcap for UCM while Bryant finished with two RBI.
  • Gentry Wishard (2-0) got the win, not allowing a run over six frames. 
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals open Great Lakes Valley Conference play next week as they travel to Drury on Friday before a trip to Missouri S&T on Sunday.
