UIS Takes Two from Cardinals

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The William Jewell softball fell twice on the road at Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon by finals of 9-8 and 9-2. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 8, UIS 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Stars grabbed an early lead in the first inning, Jewell wasted no time responding as Tori Farr doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Ledbetter
  • UIS pushed their lead to three in the bottom of the second but an Aly Manhart doubled to score Allison Rawls to cut the lead in half. 
  • In the top of the fifth Farr singled scoring Rawls before scoring herself on another sac fly by Ledbetter to tie the game at four. 
  • After the Stars retook the lead, 7-4, the Cardinals again rallied, scoring four runs in the sixth on RBI by Rawls, Manhart, and Ledbetter to take their first lead, 8-7. 
  • UIS got a two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth that put the Stars back on top for good. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Three Cardinals, Rawls, Farr and Kelli McCallister, posted two hits apiece. 
  • Ledbetter finished with a team-high four RBI while Rawls scored three runs. 
  • Manhart (3-12) suffered the loss, tossing one inning. 

GAME TWO
Jewell 2, UIS 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell grabbed an early lead in game two as Sabrina Olmo beat out an infield single and scored on a base hit by Rawls. 
  • UIS tied the game in the bottom of the inning and added seven more over the next four frames to open an 8-1 lead. 
  • Manhart hit a solo home run in the sixth inning but the Stars got the run back in the sixth. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Olmo finished with two hits while Manhart and Rawls had RBI. 
  • McCallister drew two walks. 
  • Kenzie Jones (2-11) took the loss, while striking out three. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will return home for the remainder of the season, beginning with a doubleheader with Quincy on Saturday at 12 p.m.
