Cardinals Walk Off Twice to Take Pair From Quincy

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team earned two, 4-3 wins over Quincy University on Saturday, both via the walk off single. The Cardinals improve to 10-26 on the season and 9-15 in conference play. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 4, Quincy 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Quincy jumped out on top early with a solo home run in the first inning. The Cardinals rallied in the bottom half of the frame, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Allison Rawls and a sac fly from Aly Manhart to take the lead. 
  • The Hawks tied the game in the fourth with an RBI bunt by Kernich. 
  • Tori Farr led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to put Jewell back in front but Quincy was able to tie things back up in the seventh to force extra innings. 
  • After Sammie Welt shut the Hawks down in order in the eighth Manhart reached base on a wild pitch. Payton Totzke came on to run and quickly stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scored on an RBI single up the middle by Lauren Ledbetter to give Jewell the win. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • The Cardinals were limited to five hits in the opener, with two by Ledbetter. 
  • Welt (3-3) earned the win, working the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit. 
     

GAME TWO
Jewell 4, Quincy 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Quincy again took an early lead in game two with a two run home run in the top of the first. 
  • The Cardinals turned the momentum in the fourth as Tori Farr triples and scored on a throwing error by the Hawks. Hailey Wall doubled to score Kolbee Kealoha before Kelly McCallister reached on a fielder's choice allowing Wall to score and Jewell to take the lead. 
  • Down to their final out, Quincy got an RBI single to tie the game at three. In the bottom of the inning, Sabrina Olmo reached on an error and scored on a single to left by Farr. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Manhart collected three hits to lead the Cardinals while Farr had two. 
  • Kenzie Jones (3-11) shined in the circle, tossing a four-hit complete game, striking out two. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday as they host Truman at 1 p.m.
