TOPEKA, Kan. - The William Jewell women's soccer team opened the season on Thursday night with their first non-conference game in two years, matching up with Washburn University. The Cardinals fell 1-0 after a second half goal. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Offense was hard to come by early in the opener as both teams combined for just four shots in the first 45 minutes. 
• Clara Fronabarger got off a shot in the 35th minute but missed to the left. 
• Early in the second half, Washburn's Tera Lynch scored to put the Ichabods on top. 
• Jewell got two more shots off in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Fronabarger, Jayme Coon and Alex Johnson each posted one shot. 
• Keeper Kaylie Kappelmann finished with seven saves.
• Washburn posted 13 shots, to Jewell's three.
