CARDINAL NOTES
  • After seeing their win streak snapped due to cold shooting on Thursday, the Cardinals bounced back with a win over Quincy, 81-77, on Saturday to win their seventh game of the season.
  • In that game, Mason Alexander took over sole possession of fifth place all-time on Jewell's three-point field goals made list, with his 181st, surpassing Kyle Fisher (2006-10). The senior needs an additional 52 to move up to No. 4 and tie Patrick Whelan (2014-18). He is currently fourth in the GLVC with 89 attempts this season and his 494 rank sixth all-time for the Cardinals. He is shooting at a 37.1% clip this winter, second only to his freshman season (43.2%) and is on pace to finish in the top-15 in program history.
  • Kobe McKinley continues to pace the Cardinals on both ends of the floor with 13.8 points and 2.67 steals per contest, which is second in the conference, while shooting 52.1% from the field, sixth best in the GLVC.
  • Jewell had a tough week shooting, particularly from the free throw line to open the year. After coming into 2022 as one of the top-10 free throw shooting teams in Division II at nearly 80% as a team, the Cardinals connected on just 66% of attempts last week. Despite the struggles, Jewell made enough when they were necessary to win two of three games, which were both decided by less than six points. As a team they continue to rank high, at No. 31 nationally, with Jordan Jermain coming in at third in the GLVC among eligible players (min. 2/game) with an 85% clip.
  • Trey Shannon is quietly one of the most consistent players in the conference. The junior isn't overly flashy but leads the GLVC with more than 440 minutes (34:12 per game) and adds 8.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for the Cardinals while shooting 44% from long range and recently handed out a career high five assists.
  • With a wealth of veteran experience on the roster this winter, the class of 2025 hasn't seen much time since the start of conference play. However, one freshman has seen his production and playing time increase as of late. Isaac Patterson has played in all 13 games and scored a career high eight points in two of the last four games. Against Quincy, he scored all eight in the first half, sparking a 17-10 run to end the opening 20 minutes and give Jewell the lead. He also grabbed one assist and one block in 12 minutes off the bench.
  • Grant Stubbs made his season debut last week and brought a much-needed versatile presence to the floor. The 2021 GLVC All-Freshman Team performer missed the first 10 games of his sophomore campaign due to injury but has averaged 7.3 points and four rebounds since his return. In his first game back in the starting lineup against Quincy, he put up 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 22 minutes.
  • After a rocky start to 2022, Jermain got back on track on Saturday, pouring in 20 points on 3-of-5 from three, while handing out three assists and grabbing two steals with just a single turnover. The sophomore is no secret to anyone in the GLVC any longer and endured some cold shooting to start the new year, going 3-16 from the floor in two games early last week but his Saturday performance proved he is still one of the tougher matchups in the league.
  • Chris McCabe is now in his third season at the helm of the Cardinal program. The 14th coach in program history will look to get Jewell back to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2018.
  • Jewell is in its 123rd season of men's basketball on The Hill and are chasing win No. 1,700. The Cardinals entered the season with 1,668 victories, winning nearly 60% of the time over the last century-plus.

ABOUT DRURY
  • Drury heads to Liberty after a tough 80-76 loss at Illinois Springfield last Thursday. The first meeting between the Cardinals and Panthers was canceled due to health and safety protocols.
  • As a team, the Panthers average better than 75 points per game, led by Malek Davis' 15.2, which is ninth in the conference. The junior guard also dishes out 3.4 assists per game. Victor Nwagbarachoa (11.4) and Quenton Shelton (10.3) also average in double-figures.
  • Defensively, Drury is 15th in the GLVC, allowing opponents 82.4 points per night and are 12th with nearly 35 rebounds. Obi Okafor is the top rebounder on the team with six per outing while blocking 0.6 shots.
  • The Panthers are under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Foster, who is very familiar with the GLVC having spent time at McKendree and Truman.

ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
  • After winning four games to close 2021 and open the new year, the Miners have dropped their last two and come in at 6-7 overall, 2-4 in conference play.
  • The Miners are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the GLVC, connecting on 37.8% and 9.2 per game, which rank fourth and second respectively.
  • One of those top shooters is Julien Smith, the second-year player, leads the team with more than 19 points per night, while shooting 40.6% from long range.
  • Kaden Froebe and Alex Strating also average in double-figures for the Miners with the former leading the team with 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals.
  • Missouri S&T leads the GLVC with 27.7 defensive rebounds per game and are fourth with 37.5 total.
  • The Miners are coached by Bill Walker, in his third year at his alma mater after spending time at Illinois Springfield.
