LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team challenged the top-ranked team in the nation on Thursday evening, falling by a final of 77-53, a 24-point swing improvement from the last meeting with the Panthers, just 11 days ago.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals shot well early, hanging around for much of the opening quarter. Skyler Boylan scored two early buckets to tie things at seven, just under three minutes into the game.
- The Panthers went on a 14-4 lead to build a 10-point lead but baskets from Kate Hillyer and Elizabeth Ernsting cut it back to six but Drury outscored the Cardinals 26-5 in the second quarter to break things open and hold a 50-20 lead at the break.
- Drury expanded their lead to 38 midway through the third quarter after a steal and bucket. Jewell responded with a solid fourth quarter, outscoring the Panthers 19-13 and cutting the lead down to 22 but could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Katie Knock led the offense with 13 points and three assists.
- D'Asya Collier-Williams added eight points and four steals while Boylan had six point and five rebounds in her first career start.
- The Cardinals forced Drury into 23 turnovers, their second highest total this season.
