INSIDE THE SERIES
  • The Cardinals are 4-10-1 all-time against Missouri S&T but have dropped the last six meetings. Jewell last won in a 40-16 homecoming victory in 2015.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals ran the ball a season high 40 times last week against Southwest Baptist. Jordan Clay has more than half of those carries (22), picking up 90 net yards and a touchdown, his second 90-plus yard game in a row. In four games played in 2022, the sophomore is averaging 59 yards per game.
  • Deldrionn Amos caught seven passes on Saturday, tied with Marquis Whitmire for the most by a Cardinal this season. The junior transfer grabbed his fourth touchdown of the year, sitting just outside the top-12 all-time for scores in a season by a receiver.
  • CJ Ward enters the week in the middle of the pack among GLVC quarterbacks with 190.6 yards per game and 11.91 per completion. The junior has posted his most efficient games the last two weeks, going 30-for-47 (63.8%) with 444 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Additionally, he has begun to make gains on the ground, totaling 52 yards on 19 carries after having negative rushing yards through the first four weeks.
  • Grant Latina is one of the top return men in the league, coming into week seven ranked third in the GLVC with 25.5 yards per kick return, a total that is 30th in Division II. For his career, the redshirt junior picks up 22.1 yards per return and an average of 27.7 per game, including 40.8 this season.
  • Defensively, on punt returns, the Cardinals are fourth nationally, allowing opponents just -0.22 per return.
  • Sean Mitchell picked up a season high 11 tackles last week to lead the defense against Southwest Baptist. The redshirt freshman is ninth in the GLVC with 6.8 takedowns per game and one defended pass.
  • Taylor Eggers is tied for third in the conference this season with four rushing touchdowns but has done so on less total yardage than the others in the top 10. The running quarterback has totaled 92 yards on the season, more than 150 less than the next top scorer in the league.
  • The Cardinals have snapped one streak this season, ending a 27-game skid with the win over Kentucky Wesleyan. Jewell is now looking to get their first GLVC win since a 14-10 victory over Southwest Baptist on October 6, 2018.
  • Greene Stadium was completed in 1955 and has served as the home of the Cardinals for the past 66 seasons but 2022 will be its last. Following the conclusion of the season construction will begin on The Link Project which will include among its features a new indoor arena, locker room and coaches' spaces, athletic training room and student fitness center on the inside of the building along with a new stadium and campus entrance design on the outside. The $20 million campaign was matched this summer and the ceremonial groundbreaking took place homecoming weekend.
