Jewell Travels to Washburn Tomorrow, Hosts Emporia State Friday in Home Opener

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team continues non-conference play this week with two tough matchups against MIAA opponents, traveling to Washburn before hosting Emporia State in their home opener. 


THE SERIES
The Cardinals are 6-13 all-time against Washburn University, but are coming off an upset 56-52 win over the then-No. 11 ranked Ichabods last season. Jewell is 6-5 against the Hornets of Emporia State but dropped last season's non-conference meeting 78-71. 
 

CARDINAL NOTES

  • The Cardinals are coming off a 1-1 season opening weekend with a big win over Davenport before falling to Purdue Northwest. 
  • Jewell took care of the basketball exceptionally well last weekend, averaging just 7.5 turnovers per game, seventh best in Division II. The Cardinals committed just five giveaways against Purdue Northwest, their lowest total since last December 10 against Baptist Bible. 
  • Kobe McKinley was one of 27 players in Division II to post a double-double in the opening weekend with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Purdue Northwest. McKinley is one of five Cardinals who averaged in double figures in the first two games with 11.5 points per game. Jordan Jermain is tops with an average of 19 points per game after a career high 33 point output in the season opener against Davenport. 
  • Jewell out-rebounded both opponents last weekend by a combined margin of 7.0, including an average of 11 on the offensive end. Grant Stubbs and Heri Tshiyoyo each pulled down three offensive boards per game in the opening week while Eli Wingert had two. 
  • Mason Alexander started for the 79th and 80th time in his career weekend to move into a tie with Brook Russell (1992-96) and Brian Patterson (1998-02) for 22nd all-time.
