Cardinals Hit the Road for Two GLVC Tilts

11/30/2022 11:44:00 AM

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team heads east for their first GLVC road trip of the season with stops at No. 20 Indianapolis and Lewis.

THE SERIES

  • The Cardinals are 1-10 all-time against Indianapolis with the first win coming in November 2020 on the road.
  • On the other side, Jewell is 3-7 against Lewis with all meetings coming in the NCAA era but posting a big 65-57 win over the Flyers last winter to help secure their spot in the GLVC Tournament.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • The Cardinals are coming a key 77-55 win over McKendree on Monday night. Jewell was picked just ahead of the Bearcats in the preseason poll and posted a dominant second half, outscoring their opponent 42-20, to get the victory.
  • Mason Alexander connected on four more three-point field goals on Monday night to push his career total to 232, two shy of surpassing Patrick Whelan (2014-18) for fourth place all-time. Meanwhile, Jordan Jermain also continues to climb the chart, now with 122 triples of his own, passing Clint Underwood (2001-05) for sole possession of 16th place. Both players also currently rank among the top-25 in three point field goal percentage.
  • Heri Tshiyoyo has jumped out of the gate as one of the best centers in the GLVC this winter. The fifth year senior is tops in the league with 13 blocked shots and 76 rebounds which is also second in all of Division II. He enters the weekend averaging 9.5 rebounds per game, 3.12 offense boards per game, and 1.62 blocks per game to go with three double-doubles and 27 free throw attempts, all of which are top-five in the GLVC.
  • Jordan Jermain has perhaps somewhat quietly maintained his offensive prowess, averaging a team best 15.3 points per game through eight contests. The returning All-GLVC performer from last season has been held in single digits three times but the Cardinals have proven to be well-balanced enough to lighten the load as four players average at least 9.8 points overall and at least 11.0 points in conference play.
  • Jewell got big performances out of two young players, Isaac Patterson and Eli Wingert, on Monday that directly impacted the team's win. Patterson sparked Jewell's 19-2 second half run, scoring 10 consecutive points over a span of less than four minutes while also grabbing five rebounds, one steal and a block. Wingert also scored a career high eight points, including two first half momentum changing slams.
