Women's Basketball Travels to UIndy, Lewis for First Road Trip of 2022-23

11/30/2022 11:37:00 AM

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season this week, traveling to Indianapolis on Thursday, followed by a stop at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon.

THE SERIES
The Cardinals are 5-6 against UIndy in the NCAA era and have won two of the last three, but fell last winter, 79-34. Jewell is just 1-10 against Lewis, getting their first victory over the Flyers in February 2021, but dropped an 84-50 decision last season.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • The Cardinals are one of, if not the youngest teams in the GLVC this season. Over 76% of the minutes played this year have been by freshmen and sophomores, including 46% by rookies. Three of those freshmen, Ayden Shannon, Chloe Frank and Emree Zars, have played the most minutes this season, all averaging better than 24 a game and having started at least six times.
  • Rachel Senn enjoyed a breakout game on Monday, posting 10 points and six rebounds against McKendree. The sophomore played only three games last year before a season-ending injury but is finding a groove this winter, averaging 4.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and nearly one block per outing.
  • Jewell scored a season best 14 points from the free throw line on Monday evening, going 14-of-16 (87.5%). Skyler Boylan got to the line four times, going 7-for-8, while Frank was 5-of-6 and Senn was perfect on both attempts.
  • The Cardinals shot 40% from three against McKendree, their second highest mark this season, but have been superb defensively outside the arc. Jewell has allowed opponents just a 29.7% clip from long range, second best in the GLVC.
  • After a seven-game home stand to open the season, the longest streak in the NCAA era, the Cardinals hit the road for six of the next eight games, including a trip to Alaska on December 10-11.
