CARDINAL NOTES

  • Jewell returns all but one letterwinner from a year ago. Lea Finn graduated after appearing in 90 career games but the top three scorers are all back. Additionally, the Cardinals will get Rachel Senn back from injury and added six newcomers.
  • Libby Arnold headlines the list of returners, now in her junior season. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native averaged a team high 10.2 points and was third with 4.7 rebounds per game.  She poured in a career high against Michigan Tech last season on the road on 8-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-5 from three.
  • Katie Knock was the only player to start all 26 games in 2021-2022 and returns after adding 8.3 points, a team high 5.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals. She also blocked one shot per game and 26 total from her point guard position, a mark that is already sixth in a career in the NCAA era.
  • Kate Hillyer picked up an average of 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per outing last winter in her debut before missing the final month with injury. The long, athletic sophomore is back after scoring in double figures 10 times, including six times in the month of January.
  • Jewell picked up six newcomers including Ayden and Bree Shannon who are the younger sisters of Cardinal men's basketball senior Trey Shannon and the daughters of Jobie who also wore the Jewell uniform under Jill Slominski. Chloe Frank (Iowa), Caitlin Behling (Wisconsin), Abigail Jones (Iowa) and local product Emree Zars make the up the rest of the 2022 recruiting class.
