ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The William Jewell women's basketball team put together another solid performance against nationally ranked University of Alaska Anchorage on Sunday but battled through cold shooting in the third period, falling 75-56. The Cardinals drop to 2-10 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 12-3 lead before Jewell got rolling. A three point play from Kate Hillyer kick started 7-0 run to get the Cardinals back within two.
- Hillyer again came through, this time with a long range three just nine seconds into the second quarter to tie the game at 22-all. Jewell went the next six-plus minutes without a field goal as UAA went back in front by nine. The Cardinals finished the half by outscoring the Seawolves 9-4 to make it a four-point game at the break, 35-31.
- Jewell went cold in the third quarter, connecting on just a single field goal as UAA pushed their lead to 22 heading into the fourth frame.
- The Cardinals got back in rhythm in the last 10 minutes, going on a 16-6 run to get back with a dozen, led by five points from Ayden Shannon, but ran out of time in the end.
KEY STATS
- Shannon scored 18 points, the best of her young career, while Hillyer added 16 to go with seven rebounds.
- D'Aysa Collier-Williams posted career highs with seven rebounds and six assists while Emree Zars grabbed a team best eight boards.

Jewell returns home for a two-game home stand next week, hosting Ottawa on Friday before crosstown rival Rockhurst comes to the Mabee Center.
