LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team built a double-digit halftime lead and held on down the stretch to defeat Lewis University 65-57 on Senior Day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals went on top early by five after three pointers from Jordan Jermain, John Zimmerman and Mason Alexander in the first six minutes.
• Lewis got back within one, 25-24, with just over five minutes to go in the half but the Cardinals finished on a 13-4 run, capped by a 30-foot three at the buzzer to make it a 10 point lead at the break. 
• Jewell opened the second half outscoring the Flyers 16-6 to open up a 20 point lead, their largest of the day. Lewis followed with an 11-0 run over the next six minutes to cut the lead to single digits. 
• A triple from Trey Shannon made it a 12 point Cardinal lead but Lewis continued to chip away, getting within six with under three minutes on the clock. Jewell connected on 6-of-8 free throws over the final two minutes to ice the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Alexander lit things up from long range, going 5-for-10 for 19 points while dishing out four assists. 
• Jermain added 13 points while Heri Tshiyoyo picked up six rebounds.

The Cardinals will finish the regular season on the road, beginning next week with a trip to Truman followed by a rematch with Quincy University.
