CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals are looking to keep momentum, coming off a big win over GLVC East leader Lewis on Saturday afternoon. Jewell built a 20-point lead in the second half and held on down the stretch to down the Flyers.
  • Jewell enters the week tied with Lindenwood for the number eight spot in the GLVC Point Rating System but would lose the tie breaker as the Lions defeated the Cardinals 72-60 on January 20 to win the head-to-head. The top team in the PRS at the conclusion of the regular season will receive a first-round bye in the GLVC Tournament, while seeds 2-8 will host first round games.
  • Mason Alexander recently moved into the top-five in program history with more than 180 three-point field goals. The senior is now chasing another milestone, sitting 15 points from 1,000 for his career, which would make him the 44th Cardinal to reach the plateau.
  • Jewell has moved up to second in the GLVC and 40th in Division II in three-point field goal defense, holding opponents to just 31%. In the last three games, opponents have shot just 20-for-70 from long range for 28%.
  • Thanks to three straight games of double-digit offensive rebounding performances the Cardinals have moved up to fourth in the league, averaging more than 10 per game. Heri Tshiyoyo leads the team with 59 on the season while Kobe McKinley has 44, Jevaughn Ferguson 28 and Grant Stubbs 23. Tshiyoyo comes into the week third in the GLVC with an average of 2.57 offensive rebounds per game.
  • Despite a bit of a drop off in offensive production lately, the Cardinals have picked up the slack on the defensive end. Over the last nine games, Jewell has averaged less than 60 points (59.7) compared to 75.4 over the previous 10 contests. In that same span however, the Cardinals have lowered its defensive point allowance to 65.4. On the season, Jewell is now fifth in the GLVC, allowing opponents just 67 points per night, including holding four of their last nine to 61 points or less.
  • The Cardinals have not been to the conference tournament since 2018 but are now guaranteed an appearance with the recent adjustment of GLVC policy. Due to COVID-19 cancelations and the inequities of the number of games played across the league, the conference tournament will now feature all 15 teams, with the regular season champion receiving a first-round by while seeds 2-8 will host first-round games on February 28. This policy is in place for the 2022 tournament only.
  • Chris McCabe is now in his third season at the helm of the Cardinal program and has surpassed his highest win total (10) from his first season. Under McCabe, the Cardinals have defeated two nationally ranked teams, No. 12 Bellarmine (2020) and No. 11 Washburn (2021) along with Indianapolis (2020) who was receiving votes in the polls at the time.
  • Jewell is in its 123rd season of men's basketball on The Hill and are chasing win No. 1,700. The Cardinals entered the season with 1,668 victories, winning nearly 60% of the time over the last century-plus.

ABOUT TRUMAN
  • Truman comes into Thursday's game at 18-6 overall, 12-4 in league action and atop the Central Division after a win over Maryville on Monday.
  • The Bulldogs are led by the reigning GLVC Player of the Year in redshirt junior Cade McKnight who averages a GLVC-best 19.7 points while shooting an impressive 59.7% from the field. He is also eighth with nearly five defensive rebounds per game.
  • Two other players, Elijah Hazekamp and reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year Masen Miller, also average in double figures at 12.4 and 13.7, respectively, with the former pulling down a team high 7.1 rebounds per contest.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs lead the GLVC with 79.3 points per game and a 50.5% clip from the floor.
  • Jeff Horner is now in his fourth season with Truman State and has coached two GLVC Players of the Year in that time.

ABOUT QUINCY
  • Quincy comes into the week at 12-14 overall and 5-11 in the GLVC and have dropped their last two to Lewis and Truman.
  • The Hawks are third in the league in scoring offense, averaging 78.4 points per game, led by three players in double figures. Malik Hardmon (14.2), Paul Zilinskas (12.3) and Nate Shockey (10.0) lead the way while two others average more than nine points to give QU a balanced attack.
  • Hardmon leads the GLVC and is 21st in Division II with 3.40 offensive rebounds per game as Quincy is sixth in the conference with 35.4 boards per night.
  • The Hawks are under new leadership as of February 11 as the University parted ways with Ryan Hellenthal after four-plus seasons. Assistant coach Pat Richardson will serve as the interim head coach through the remainder of the season.
