Jewell Hits the Road for Final Regular Season Roadtrip

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball heads east to begin a three-game road swing to wrap up the regular season as the Cardinals take on Truman State and Quincy.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Lea Finn enjoyed a Senior Day to remember on Saturday, scoring 15 points, two shy of her career high. She also surpassed the 400-point mark for her career last weekend and is averaging 6.0 per game to go with 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists. 
  • Katie Knock blocked two more shots on Saturday against Lewis to push her season total to 21 and surpass Lindsey McCoy (2015-18) for fourth on the Cardinals NCAA era single season record list. The sophomore's total is also already tied with Natalie Closser (2016-19) for ninth in a career. As a team, the Cardinals are fourth in the GLVC with 3.1 rejections per game and 69 total. 
  • Three players, Knock, Libby Arnold and Skyler Boylan are averaging at least nine points per game over the last three contests. Knock has shot 41% from the field and had back-to-back double-figure games while Arnold also had 11-point performances against Maryville and Illinois Springfield. Boylan has come on strong late in her freshman season pouring in a career best 15 against UIS on 6-of-10 from the field. 
  • D'Asya Collier-Williams tied her career best with six rebounds on Thursday against Illinois Springfield. The 5'4 junior has grabbed at least four boards in eight games this season. 
  • Casi Waterhouse has seen an increased role off the bench as of late. The freshman is averaging 15 minutes per contest over the last five games, scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds during that span. 
  • The Cardinals are in their 49th season of varsity basketball, and chasing the 800-win mark, entering the season at 785. The program has won nine conference championships and appeared in seven national tournaments. 
  • Jill Slominski entered the 2021-2022 season with 459 career wins, making her the winningest active coach in the GLVC and 21st in Division II.
     
ABOUT TRUMAN
  • Truman enters the week at 16-8 on the season and 12-4 in the league and have won three of their last five. 
  • The Bulldogs average better than 70 points per game and boast two of the GLVC top-10 leading scorers in Hannah Belanger (17.3) and Ellie Weltha (14.8). Katey Klucking also adds 10 points per outing.
  • Welta also leads the conference and is 15th nationally with nearly eight defensive rebounds per game as Truman is tops in the GLVC in the same category whil outrebounding opponents by 10 boards per night. 
  • While the Bulldogs are first in the GLVC with nearly 500 three-point field goal attempts, the rank 11th in percentage shooting at 30% from long range while making six per game. 
  • Theo Dean is one of the top young coaches in Division II, now in his third season, and owns a 53-21 record. He previously served as the assistant coach for the Bulldogs for three seasons. 
     
ABOUT QUINCY 
  • Quincy comes into the week at 6-17 overall and 2-13 in the GLVC, with one of those wins being a 69-38 win over Jewell on January 8. The Hawks have dropped their last six games after defeating McKendree on January 20. 
  • Quincy is one of the top defensive teams in the league, allowing teams just 63.3 points per game, fifth best in the GLVC. 
  • The Hawks average 58 points themselves, led by Beth Matas Martin's 12.2 per night. The junior also dishes out 3.7 assists and swipes 1.3 steals, both team highs. 
  • Emma Knipe leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game while three others, including Matas Martin average at least four. 
  • Kaci Bailey is in her first season at the helm of the Quincy program after previously serving as an assistant coach at George Mason University.
