Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fast Start Carries Cardinals to First Ever GLVC Tournament Win

LIBERTY, Mo. - Already making history, tying for their highest finish in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and earning the right to host a first round game, the William Jewell men's basketball team continued the season on Monday night with an 89-77 win over Lindenwood. The win moves the Cardinals to 14-14 on the season and marks their first GLVC Tournament win since joining the league in 2011-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Things couldn't have started better for Jewell as they came out shooting 70% and grabbing a 15-2 lead before Lindenwood called a timeout six minutes into the game. A jumper from Mason Alexander made it a 16-point Cardinal lead before the Lions found their offense, going on a 24-13 run to cut the lead to just five.
  • Jewell forced three straight turnovers to start the second half, quickly expanding their lead back to 11 after a triple from Jordan Jermain. Leading by five with 15:46 to go, the Cardinals went on a 21-11 run, led by 10 points from Grant Stubbs to push the lead back to 15.
  • The Lions got within single digits with under a minute to play but Jermain and Alexander converted all six free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Stubbs came off the bench to score a career high 23 points on 9-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from long range.
  • Jermain added 19, Alexander 14 and Kobe McKinley 11 to give Jewell four players in double figures.
  • McKinley and Jermain pulled down a team high nine rebounds as the Cardinals dominated the glass, 36-25.
  • Jewell had 13 assists on the night, led by Alexander's career high seven.
