Cardinals Drop Pair with Drury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon by finals of 8-1 and 11-3. The Cardinals drop to 3-13 on the season, 1-3 in conference action. 

Game One: Jewell 1, Drury 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless frames, Drury took the lead in the top of the third with two runs on three hits. The Cardinals cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third as Kolbee Kealoha walked before scoring on a wild pitch. 
  • The Panthers hit four home runs over the final four innings to win 8-1.

Game Two: Jewell 3, Drury 11 (6 Inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After plating an early run in the first, Drury broke things open in the second, scoring seven runs on three hits to take an 8-0 lead. 
  • Jewell got one back in the bottom of the inning as Sydney Cure sent her first career home run over the left field wall. 
  • The Panthers added two more in the third but the Cards got those runs back on an Abby Vandiver two-run home run, the first of her career, to make it 10-3 after three frames. 
  • In the sixth, the Panthers got a double and scored on a wild pitch before forcing three quick outs in the bottom half to end the game early. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sabrina Olmo finished with two hits while Vandiver had a team-high two RBI. 
  • Kenzie Jones (3-3) suffered the loss, going 1.1 innings with six runs. 
  • Sydney Parra tossed the final 4.2 frames, striking out two while allowing three earned runs. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals wrap up a six game home stand on Wednesday as they host Emporia State at 2 p.m. at Urban Youth Academy.
