LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team defeated Missouri-St. Louis 6-2 in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals, who move to 8-18 on the season, 4-8 in conference play, had game one slip away, 5-2.
GAME ONE: Jewell 2, UMSL 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the second, Abby Dubinski singled through the left side followed by an error on a Kolbee Kealoha bunt attempt to put three runners on base. Sabrina Olmo singled up the middle scoring two to give Jewell the early lead.
- UMSL took advantage of four hits and a Cardinal error in the top of the seventh to plate five and take a lead they did not relinquish.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dubinski, Olmo, Hailey Wall and Abby Vandiver accounted for the Cardinals four hits.
- Aliyah Santiago (3-5) took the loss, striking out six batters and giving up just two earned runs over six frames.
GAME TWO: Jewell 6, UMSL 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMSL grabbed the lead early in game two with a run in the top of the first, but the Cardinals responded with two in the bottom half. Hailey Wall doubled to left field to score Vandiver before Allison Rawls, scored on a wild pitch.
- In the fourth inning, Kealoha led off with a hit-by-pitch followed by a bunt single from Kenzie Stahl. The pair scored on back-to-back RBI singles from Olmo and Vandiver before the former scored after a long run down at the plate ended in a dropped tag attempt.
- The Tritons got one run back in the top of the sixth and loaded the bases in the seventh but a line out ended the threat.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell posted nine hits, led by two apiece from Vandiver and Wall.
- Kenzie Jones (4-6) picked up the win with a complete game effort, striking out five.

The Cardinals take a quick break from GLVC play on Tuesday as they host Newman University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the Urban Youth Academy.
