SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team went 1-3 on at the Drury Invite over the weekend, defeating Northern State (Okla.) and falling to Nebraska Kearney and twice to No. 8 Rogers State. The Cardinals enter conference play next week at 2-10 on the season.
Jewell 5, Northern State 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got on the board first in the fourth inning as Sydney Cure singled and scored on an error.
- The Cardinals broke things open in the sixth, scoring four runs on two hits and taking advantage of a RiverHawk error, a walk and passed ball. NSU got one run back in the bottom of the frame but Kenzie Jones forced three ground balls to close things out.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Abby Vandiver led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
- Jones (2-1) worked all seven frames, allowing just a three hits while striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rogers State scored two early runs in the top of the second inning to go on top. The Hillcats added one in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals were limited to five hits, including two from Hailey Wall.
- Aliyah Santiago (0-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs over six innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNK hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the first for an early advantage and added a run in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
- The Cardinals got on the board in the bottom half of the third as Allison Rawls singled and scored on a triple from Sydney Cure.
- The Lopers scored three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to expand the lead. Jewell got one back on an RBI groundout by Rawls but could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rawls and Abby Dubinski each posted two hits to lead the team while Payton Totzke also had a double.
- Jones (2-2) suffered the loss, working 6.2 innings with six earned runs and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rogers State plated two in the first three in the third to hold a large early lead. The Hillcats scored three more on five hits in the fourth to bring the score to the final.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was held to a single hit, from Jones, as Rogers State's Andrea Morales totaled 13 strikeouts.
- Sammie Welt (0-4) took the loss, going 1.2 innings while Sydney Parra also tossed 2.1 frames with three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will host Missouri S&T on Friday for their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, followed by Drury on Saturday. Both doubleheaders will be played at Urban Youth Academy in downtown Kansas City.
