Softball Wins Game Two to Split with Lewis

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team snapped a seven game skid on Sunday with a split with Lewis University. The Cardinals dropped game one 5-0 before rallying to win 5-4 in the nightcap. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 0, Lewis 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lewis scored a single run in the second, three in the third and another in the fifth to take the opener. 
  • The Cardinals put two runners on in the bottom of the seven but the Flyers closed things out. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals had six total hits, all by different players. One of those hits belonged to senior Aly Manhart who recently overcame a battle with sarcoma and was honored by her team who wore yellow ribbons and shoelaces during the doubleheader. 
  • Kenzie Jones (5-9) took the loss, giving up three earned runs over six innings. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 5, Lewis 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell took advantage of an error and four consecutive walks in the bottom of the second inning to score two. Hailey Wall followed with a two RBI single up the middle to put the Cards on top 4-0. 
  • The Flyers scored a run in the third and three in the fourth to tie the game. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth Wall led off with a single up the middle followed by a walk to Manhart. Abby Harder came on to run for Wall and scored on a sac fly from Jones to put the Cards on top for good. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was limited to three hits, with two by Wall, but took advantage of eight free passes. 
  • Sydney Parra (2-3) earned the win in relief tossing the final 3.2 frames, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals host Lincoln University of Missouri on Wednesday afternon at 2 p.m.
