Cardinals Take Nightcap in Split with Lincoln

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team posted 4-2 scores in both sides of a doubleheader, taking the second game, against Lincoln University of Missouri on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals moved to 12-26 on the season with the split. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 2, Lincoln 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless innings, Lincoln broke through first with two runs on two hits and a Cardinal miscue. 
  • Jewell cut the deficit in half in the fourth as Sabrina Olmo singled through the right side and scored on an RBI base hit from Aly Manhart
  • Trailing by two headed into the bottom of the seventh the Cardinals put the first two runners on with an error and a double but could not score them. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Olmo went 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Abby Dubinski added a double. 
  • Kenzie Jones (5-10) suffered the loss, working 4.2 innings, striking out four. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 4, Lincoln 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell jumped out in front in game two as Allison Rawls walked to lead off and came around to score on a Hailey Wall double. 
  • Tied in the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals plated three runs on RBI groundouts from Olmo and Wall before Rawls scored on a passed ball to put Jewell on top by three. 
  • Lincoln scored on in the bottom of the seventh but lef two stranded.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was limited to four hits but they were timely. Wall, Kenzie Jones, Sophia Lopez and Payton Totzke all contributed with hits. 
  • Wall finished with two RBI while Rawls had two runs and two walks. 
  • Aliyah Santiago (5-6) earned the win in a complete game effort with two earned runs allowed and five strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals are back to GLVC play on Saturday as they host Southwest Baptist for Senior Day.
