LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team earned their first Great Lakes Valley Conference sweep of the season on Saturday for Senior Day, defeating Southwest Baptist, 1-0 and 3-2. The Cardinals improve to 14-26 on the season, 7-15 in conference play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 1, SBU 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bothe teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the opener, hitting into double plays early. In the fourth, Allison Rawls led off with an infield single and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Hailey Wall.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell had five hits with two coming from Rawls.
- Kenzie Jones (6-10) earned the complete game win, allowing just five hits while striking out four.
GAME TWO: Jewell 3, SBU 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell started early in game two, as a fielder's choice error plated two.
- The Bearcats cut the lead in half in the top of the second but the a sac fly from Abby Dubinski in the bottom of the third put the lead back at two.
- SBU made things interesting late, scoring one in the seventh and putting the tying run on base but Sammie Welt shut the door with a fly out and pop up.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rawls again led the Cardinals with two hits while Jones and Sabrina Olmo each added one.
- Sydney Parra (3-3) earned the win after not giving up an earned run over five frames.
- Sammie Welt earned her first save of the season with a two inning effort and two strikeouts.

Jewell will step out of GLVC play for a short trip to Missouri Southern on Tuesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
