Cardinals Challenge No. 5 Indianapolis but Fall Twice

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The William Jewell softball team took on the No. 5 ranked team in the nation on Saturday, falling twice to Indianapolis, 1-0 and 13-5 in five innings. The Cardinals drop to 10-20 on the season, 4-9 in conference play. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 0, #5 UIndy 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite battling cold temperatures with the early start, the opener turned into a pitcher's duel. The only run of the game came in the fourth inning on a solo home run by UIndy's Lexie Rees. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hailey Wall finished with two hits while Kenzie Jones had the other for the Cardinals. 
  • In her first career start, Sydney Parra allowed just the single earned run on seven hits. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 5, #5 UIndy 13
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both offenses came to life in the nightcap as the Cardinals immediately jumped on top, with an RBI double from Allison Rawls
  • The Greyhounds took the lead with three runs in the second frame but Jewell immediately responded as Abby Dubinski put a triple into right center, scoring Rawls and Wall to tie the game. 
  • The Hounds got a solo home run in the bottom of the third to go back in front but the Cards again rallied with a RBI single from Sabrina Olmo
  • UIndy added three runs to go in front 7-4. A Wall solo home run cut into the lead, but the Greyhounds scored six runs on six hits to end the game after five innings. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Dubinski and Olmo finished with two hits, while the former had two RBI. 
  • Aliyah Santiago (4-6) took the loss, giving up five earned runs on 12 hits. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday afternoon at Southern Indiana.
