Softball Walks Off for Split with Central Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In their final non-conference games of the season, the William Jewell softball team earned a split with an 8-7 walk off win in game two. The Cardinals, who moved to 17-29 on the season, dropped the opener 8-0 in five innings. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 0, Central Missouri 8 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Central Missouri put up two runs in the first inning and added two in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game after five frames. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals were limited to just a single hit from Payton Totzke
  • Sammie Welt (1-8) took the loss, allowing five earned runs. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 8, Central Missouri 7 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Jennies plated an early run in the first, Jewell took their first lead of the day on a two-run home run off the bat of Aly Manhart
  • UCM went back in front in the top half of the fifth, scoring three runs, but it was Manhart again in the bottom of the inning with a bases clearing single before Abby Harder scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-4 Cardinal lead. 
  • Ella Hoffman hit a pinch hit home run in the sixth to put Jewell on top by four but the Jennies got a big home run of their own in the top half of the seventh to tie things up. 
  • Allison Rawls led of the bottom of the seventh and was all it took for Jewell to secure the victory as the graduate senior put a solo home run over the center field wall. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell totaled eight hits in the night cap, led by two a piece from Manhart, Totzke and Sabrina Olmo
  • Sydney Parra (4-3) earned the win, working the final 2.1 innings in relief. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals close out the regular seaosn on Saturday with a trip downtown to take on Rockhurst University
