LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell baseball team won the first game of a four game set with McKendree University on Friday afternoon but have dropped the next two. The Cardinals move to 28-16 on the season, 13-10 in conference play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 4, McKendree 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell scored three runs in the top of the first on RBI from Alex Epp and Drew Reed.
- The Cardinals got a RBI goundout from Cameron Fliege in the fifth to add an insurance run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell had seven total hits, all from different players.
- Reed led with two RBI and a stolen base.
- Jake Sawyer (6-1) earned the complete game win, allowing just four hits with no walks.
GAME TWO: Jewell 5, McKendree 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McKendree took the first lead in game two before Jewell plated four runs in the top of the third including an RBI triple from Epp.
- The Cardinals added a run in the fifth only to see the Bearcats tie the game in the seventh and win it in walk off fashion in the eighth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Epp and Reed finished with two hits a piece, including a double.
- Drew Dant (4-2) took the loss, allowing four earned in relief.
GAME THREE: Jewell 14, McKendree 15
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell again took an early lead with four runs in the top of the first on two RBI from Fliege followed by a two run home run off the bat of Epp.
- The Bearcats got one back in the bottom half of the first but the Cards added two more on one hit and one error in the third to lead 6-1.
- A three run home run from Anthony Hansen followed by RBI base hits from Will Brandt and Quincy Aldrich pushed it to a 12-5 lead.
- McKendree rallied in the seventh, scoring nine runs on seven hits to take a 14-12 lead.
- A Chase Elias home run in the top of the ninth put Jewell in good position but two base hits and a sacrifice bunt in the bottom half gave the Bearcats another walk off.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell finished with 13 hits led by Hansen, Epp, Brant Dickerson and Aldrich with two each.
- Hansen and Elias drove in three runs while Epp scored three times.
- Dant (4-3) suffered the loss, giving up one earned run.
