Cardinals Drop Pair to Illinois Springfield

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to Illinois Springfield by scores of 6-3 and 12-3. The Cardinals fall to 10-24 on the season, 4-14 in conference play. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 3, UIS 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Prairie Stars scored once in each of the first two innings to take an early lead but in the bottom of the second Ella Hoffman sent her blasted her team leading fifth home run of the season to tie the game. 
  • UIS went back on top in the fourth but the Cardinals quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning on a sac fly from Kenzie Jones after back-to-back hits from Allison Rawls and Hailey Wall to lead off the inning.  
  • The Stars plated three runs on three hits in the fifth to go on top for good. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rawls and Hoffman each finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. 
  • Kenzie Jones (5-8) took the loss, working six innings. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 3, UIS 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Illinois Springfield jumped on top early with four runs in the opening inning. In the bottom half, Rawls sent her second home run of the year over the left field wall to put the Cards on the board. 
  • Trailing 7-1, Jewell got two back as Kolbee Kealoha snuck home on after a rundown at second base followed by a sac fly from Kenzie Stahl to plate Sydney Cure.  
  • UIS added one in the fourth and four in the seventh to bring the score to the final. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rawls' home run was the Cardinals only hit of the game.
  • Sammie Welt (0-7) suffered the loss, throwing four innings. Sydney Parra tossed the final three frames with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
Jewell looks to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they host Lewis University at 12 p.m.
