Women's Soccer Drops Shootout with Washburn

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team scored three goals on Sunday afternoon but dropped an offensive shootout with Washburn University, 7-3. 

GOALS
  • The Cardinals got on the board first as freshman Lux Sands scored her first career goal from 30 yards out, getting it over the keeper's head to put Jewell on top in the 26th minute. 
  • Washburn scored two goals in the span of four minutes, including one off a free kick that ricocheted off the hands of the Cardinal keeper to take a 2-1 lead at the break. 
  • Clara Fronabarger scored from 21 yards out on the left side less than a minute into the second half to tie things up at two apiece. 
  • The Ichabods quickly went back on top a little more than a minute later, scoring four times over the next 20 minutes. 
  • Corrine Hughes put one in the back of the net from 10 yards out off a feed from Fronabarger and Sands. 
  • Washburn added a late score off a corner kick in the 88th minute to bring the score to the final. 

KEY STATS
  • Fronabarger, Hughes, and Sands each scored three points, with one goal and one assist. 
  • Riley Frasure-Smith put two shots on goal and had one assist. 
  • Taylor Thompson finished with seven saves while Katie Wagenheim added three.
  • The Cardinals were out-shot 24-17, their most shots since April 2021.
